Social Media, Brand Building and the Writer
Jennifer Cockrall King has used her journalism work and a popular food blog (foodgirl.ca) to launch into a career as an author. Having a brand and an online presence played a major role in securing an agent and a book deal for her first book, Food and the City (Prometheus Books: NY, 2012). The book has received positive international attention, including the Dave Greber Book Award, and she has become a spokesperson for the urban agriculture movement on both sides of the border, thanks to a considerable amount of time Facebooking, tweeting and Linking In. Jennifer will talk about how to get comfortable with the use of social media, how to promote your work in the competitive landscape of publishing and publicity (and how not to) and the pros and cons of having a social media presence as an author.
